Harrods

Loved by Noel Coward, adored by Oscar Wilde, the world’s most famous Department Store is one of London’s most treasured buildings, and is now a favourite shopping destination of A-list celebrities, politicians and international royalty.

From a small grocery shop owned by Charles Henry Harrod in 1849, Harrods has burgeoned into a spectacular shoppers’ heaven.

A Retail Wonderland

fireworks going off on the roof of HarrodsSet across 1.2 million square feet, its 330 departments span seven floors, housing premium brands from across the globe. Closed for just two days a year, it sometimes sees more than 30,000 customers pass through it in just one day. Its intricate exterior is listed by English Heritage, as is its Egyptian Escalator, an idea conceived by Mohamed.

Harrods saw almost £400 million of investment since 1985 when Mr Al Fayed and his brother bought it, from the Fraser Brothers.

Today, with Mohamed as honorary Chairman, it is synonymous with luxury; a retail theatre which exudes the elaborate, the exclusive and the extraordinary. Take a virutal tour of Harrods or use the Store Guide to plan your visit to Harrods to experience its unique magic first hand.
