Surrey's Minerals Plan and Oxted
Mohamed released this statement following news that the Oxted Sandpit site is to be deleted from Surrey’s Minerals Plan.
"This is excellent news for Oxted but I do feel deep sympathy for other areas such as nearby Nutfield and Bletchingley where three quarries are proposed in the Green Belt threatening widespread damage to the environment.
"I attended the public hearing for Oxted and was impressed by the care the Inspector took to consider the many arguments against proposed mineral exploitation in this precious area of Green Belt, and the consequent damage and disruption this extraction of sand and gravel would have caused to the lives of the local residents.
"I am very thankful to members of Tandridge Council who understand and care about the community. My family and I are delighted that our cherished local area has been protected, and I congratulate the community and local villagers who have stood up to protect their environment. Well done."
